Exploring the Splits Workshop with Daniela Dodaro
September 8, 2019
This workshop is for anyone who finds the splits elusive or daunting but aspires to make progress in this pose. Practising the splits presents the opportunity for curious exploration of how our body responds to unfamiliar demands and probes preconceived ideas about our limitations. Most of us struggle with the splits and often give up in class even before trying. However, once the technique is understood and its variations, as well as the correct use of props are learnt, the pose becomes much more accessible and enjoyable.
In this workshop you will unwind tension in your hamstrings, outer hips, quadriceps and hip flexors through a slow vinyasa practice before making the following progress:
- learn the most common causes of restrictions and how to release them
- learn the use of props and experiment with them
- explore several different splits variations
- know what works for you and how to progress safely
Most likely you won’t leave this workshop ready to perform a splits act at the Cirque du Soleil, but you will leave with the knowledge and tools for working towards the splits in class with confidence and safety.
There will be no pressure to reach the final pose and you are not required to be flexible but it is not recommended for complete beginners.
